I love making custom boards for my clients and figured I would post a few of my favourite custom projects from 2015.
My number one favourite from 2015, and possibly ever, was a housewarming present. I went home for my sister's birthday and my mom asked me to make a cutting board for my childhood neighbour as she and her husband had recently bought their first house. Feeling a tiny bit lazy (it may have had something to do with a glass or two of wine and a party going on upstairs) I asked their son if he'd draw his new house for me and he happily obliged. The result was so much fun, and it also made his mom actually cry tears of joy. I love it. I mean, c'mon. That dog is the best.
Kiku handmade wanted a 12" diameter maple butcher block with a big skull on it. I took one of my existing designs, scaled it up, and liked the board so much I've added it to my current line.
Every summer I go to Picton, Ontario for a trunk show at Zest Kitchen Shop. They were one of the first shops to carry my work when I started Swaine Street Woodworking, and still one of my favourite. I spend the day monogramming boards for their lovely clientele and hanging out with Tucker, the cuddly shop dog. Look at that tux!
These boards were given by the bride as invitations to stand in an upcoming wedding.
I have some really great clients with some beautiful logos. The Inn At Little Washington asked for maple, and walnut serving boards with their swan logo. The crisp line work and level of detail the laser can achieve is pretty stunning.
All these boards were so much fun to make. I have a whole bunch more for another post soon!
